Primitive Skateboards
Primitive Skateboarding began in 2008 as a boutique skate shop in Encino, California, founded by professional skateboarder Paul Rodriguez alongside Heath Brinkley, Andy Netkin, Jay Partow, and Jubal Jones. Located on Ventura Boulevard, the shop catered to dedicated skateboarders by offering a carefully curated selection of premium skateboards, apparel, and accessories from leading brands.
As the driving force behind the venture, Rodriguez used his experience and reputation within skateboarding to shape the shop’s identity, while Brinkley played a key role in its day-to-day operations. Together, the founding team emphasized quality, authenticity, and relevance to the skateboarding community, helping establish a loyal following throughout the San Fernando Valley.
For six years, Primitive operated as a successful retail destination and community hub, allowing its founders to refine their vision and strengthen industry connections. In 2014, the company expanded beyond retail and transformed into an independent skateboarding brand, launching its own line of products under the leadership of Rodriguez and Brinkley. This transition preserved Primitive’s commitment to classic skate culture, authenticity, and uncompromising quality while marking its evolution from retailer to manufacturer.
